Bodycam Video Shows Florida Deputy Shooting Suspect Moments After His Brother Was Shot
Orlando, Florida — A violent and tragic incident unfolded on the evening of August 6, 2022, when the Orange County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call reporting shots fired at the Heritage Hotel, located at 7900 South Orange Blossom Trail. The area, known for its busy commercial activity, quickly became the scene of a complex shooting involving multiple victims and a fatal encounter with law enforcement.
The first emergency call was received just before nightfall, alerting deputies to the presence of gunfire at the hotel. When deputies arrived on the scene, they were met with chaos. Two individuals had already sustained gunshot wounds prior to law enforcement's arrival. Among them was Dylan Jimenez, who was discovered with a serious gunshot injury.
As deputies approached Jimenez to administer emergency medical assistance, they were alerted by witnesses and onlookers to the presence of another armed individual in the immediate vicinity. That man, later identified as Bryan Richardson, was observed holding a firearm. The situation escalated rapidly as deputies had to balance rendering aid to the wounded while simultaneously responding to a potential active threat.
Deputies issued loud verbal commands to Richardson, ordering him to drop his weapon. Despite repeated warnings and opportunities to comply, Richardson did not follow the deputies’ orders. The perceived threat, combined with the tense and rapidly evolving nature of the situation, led one deputy to discharge his firearm, striking Richardson.
Following the shooting, deputies quickly secured the scene and called for additional medical personnel. All three individuals who had sustained gunshot wounds — Jimenez, Richardson, and a third, unidentified male victim — were transported by emergency medical services to a nearby hospital. While the third individual survived his injuries, both Jimenez and Richardson were later pronounced dead at the hospital.
The identity and medical condition of the third victim were not immediately released, but officials confirmed that he was expected to recover. His role in the original exchange of gunfire remained under investigation at the time.
The deputy who fired his weapon was placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure following any officer-involved shooting. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office initiated both an internal administrative review and a criminal investigation, in cooperation with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), to determine whether departmental protocols were properly followed and to assess the legality of the deputy’s use of force.
According to law enforcement officials, body-worn camera footage from the incident will be reviewed as part of the investigation. The footage, along with witness statements and physical evidence from the scene, will help reconstruct the timeline of events and clarify whether Richardson posed an imminent threat to deputies or others at the time he was shot.
Sheriff’s Office representatives expressed condolences to the families of those involved and assured the public that a thorough and transparent investigation would be conducted. While the hotel was temporarily closed for the investigation, authorities worked quickly to gather evidence and return the area to normal operations.
The incident reignited conversations within the Orlando community regarding the use of force by law enforcement, particularly in situations involving armed individuals who may or may not be actively engaging in violence. Community advocates have called for continued review of police procedures and greater mental health intervention strategies, especially when dealing with tense public safety situations.
As of now, the results of the investigation are pending. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office has committed to releasing additional information to the public as it becomes available, including findings from the internal review and any decisions regarding potential disciplinary or legal action.
