Bodycam Shows Police Tase Woman That Smashed Up a Taco Bell

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma — The Oklahoma City Police Department has released body camera footage showing an officer subduing a woman who reportedly caused extensive damage to a local Taco Bell restaurant with a tire iron. The video, released to the public on February 1, captures key moments from the officer’s response to the incident, which occurred during the morning of January 30, 2025, at the Taco Bell located at 2608 S. I-35 Service Road.

According to authorities, police were dispatched to the fast-food restaurant just before 8:00 a.m. after receiving reports that a woman was vandalizing property and threatening employees. Callers described the suspect as wielding a tire iron and using it to smash windows. Multiple 911 calls were made by both employees and witnesses who observed the escalating situation.52-year-old Zette Lea Madden

inside the restaurant. Witnesses and staff members told police that Madden had approached the business on foot and began damaging property even before entering the building. She initially used the tire iron to smash the drive-thru menu board, and then proceeded to break the drive-thru window. After damaging the exterior, she reportedly shattered both front entry doors before entering the restaurant.

Once inside, Madden allegedly continued her destructive rampage. Employees told officers that she came behind the counter, where she smashed cash registers and demanded money. Staff members said they feared for their safety as she wielded the metal tire iron and made verbal threats. Some employees managed to retreat to safer areas within the restaurant while others remained near the scene, concerned for their safety and that of their coworkers.

The officer’s body camera footage shows the moment he arrived on scene and located Madden still inside the restaurant, actively holding the tire iron. The footage captures the officer giving multiple loud verbal commands instructing her to drop the weapon. According to the officer’s report, Madden did not comply. Instead, she began making "short, stabbing motions" with the tire iron—movements described as threatening and aggressive.

Fearing for the safety of the employees who were still inside the building and unable to escape, the officer made a split-second decision to deploy his department-issued Taser. The device successfully subdued Madden, allowing the officer to safely take her into custody without further resistance. No injuries to the officer, employees, or the suspect were reported as a result of the takedown. known individual in the area

They also shared that she had previously caused disturbances at the Taco Bell, including stealing soda from the fountain machine on multiple occasions. Despite earlier incidents, this was the first time her behavior had escalated to a violent and destructive level.

Police collected evidence from the scene, including the damaged drive-thru equipment, shattered glass doors, and destroyed cash registers. The tire iron used in the incident was recovered and entered into evidence. Surveillance footage from the restaurant, in addition to the officer’s body cam, is being reviewed as part of the ongoing investigation.

Zette Lea Madden now faces multiple criminal charges, which may include assault with a deadly weapon, criminal damage to property, and attempted robbery. She remains in custody pending further legal proceedings.

The Oklahoma City Police Department emphasized that no one was physically harmed due to the quick and decisive actions of the responding officer, and credited the Taser deployment with helping to resolve the situation without additional force. class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;
